'GOP forming an American Taliban'
The national Republican Party is taking the same path as the Texas Republican Party, pandering to extremist zealots. It has cynically formed a coalition with them. President Bush bribes them with faith-based vigorish, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist last Sunday showed that he is ready to turn the government into the American Taliban just to woo them.
The Republicans are making the same bargain with religious extremists that the Saudis made with the Wahabi: (corporate) aristocracy will continue to live its rarefied existence, while the zealots control the everyday lives of the common people...

'U.S. on its way to being a theocracy'
We should thank the Republican congressional leaders for disabusing us of the notion that we are a government of the people, by the people and for the people. In reality,
we have a government of Republicans, by the neoconservatives and for the religious right — but only the Christian religious right.
While we try to get rid of theocracies in the Middle East, our leaders are building one here. While we try to impose our brand of democracy on the world, we are working tirelessly to deprive our citizens of their rights...
