know the ideas of the religious right....the 10-40 window
http://www.ad2000.org/1040broc.htm

definition of the 10-40 window

The core of the unreached people of our world live in a rectangular-shaped window! Often called "The Resistant Belt", the window extends from West Africa to East Asia, from ten degrees north to forty degrees north of the equator. This specific region, which has increasingly become known as The 10/40 Window, encompasses the majority of the world's Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists -- billions of spiritually impoverished souls.

As we approach the end of this millennium, it is imperative that out evangelistic efforts be focused among the people who inhabit The 10/40 Window. If we are serious in our commitment to provide a valid opportunity for every person to experience the truth and saving power of Jesus Christ, we cannot ignore the compelling realities within this region.

The 10/40 Window confronts us with several important considerations: first, the historical and biblical significance; second, the least evangelized countries; third, the dominance of three religious blocs; fourth, the preponderance of the poor; fifth, the unreached ethnolinguistic people groups; sixth, the least evangelized megacities; and seventh, the strongholds of Satan within The 10/40 Window.

....

('the strongholds of Satan')

....

George Otis, Jr., has concluded that two powerful demonic forces, with great biblical significance, stand at the epicenter of the unreached world -- the prince of Persia (Iran) and the spirit of Babylon (Iraq) -- and both much be penetrated with the gospel before the Great Commission can be completed. Otis observes that this will occur in the region of the Garden of Eden, where the command to "subdue the earth" was originally given.

It is evident that the forces of Satan have great power and will resist all attempts to be overcome. If we are to storm the enemy's territory, we must put on the full armor of God and fight with the weapons of spiritual warfare described in Ephesians 6. To depend on anything less is utter foolishness.

....

NOTE THE INFO THAT MAY BE DRIVING CONCERN WITH IRAQ AND IRAN

3. As a Christian, I just don't get it...
I am part of a tiny minority...born-again Christian AND Liberal...Honestly, I see our own right-winged part of the USA as being a bigger roadblock to reaching the 10-40 window than Iraq or Iran could ever be. I just don't get it.

4. They don't seem to learn much from history in general
Didn't learn from Rome, didn't learn from the Crusades, didn't learn from Germany, Joe McCarthy, Vietnam... the list goes on

5. Death Cult
If you think of Christian Fundamentalism as a Death Cult (ie.
a cult that worships death), I think you'll see that it's not
that they didn't learn from the past, they want to actually
bring on the horrors of war. I've listened to
fundamentalist broadcasts and watched fundamentalist online
chat and talked to fundamentalists for a long time. At some
point, it dawned on me that they spend an extraordinary amount
of time talking about torture, killing and death (hence the
appeal of Mel Gibson's wallow in gore)--far more than they
spend talking about anything else, including Salvation.

6. Matthew 23:15
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves."

7. If this is what they think, they're going to break their teeth on Islam
Christianity has been able to make inroads in Buddhist countries like Korea, but I suspect this is mainly because Buddhism is such a laid back religion that it doesn't offer the kind of emotional self-indulgence that evangelical Christianity does.

However, Christianity has never made much headway against Hinduism -- which has plenty of emotionalism of its own -- except among the very poorest and most excluded castes.

And when it's come up against Islam, Christianity has almost always had to retreat. Spain is the only example I can recall of a formerly Moslem country that is now Christian -- and Spain was retaken from the Moors by force of arms, not by its powers of persuasion.
