Who We Are

The Godless Americans PAC grew out of the historic "Godless Americans March on Washington" (GAMOW) held on November 2, 2002 in Washington, DC.

For the first time in history, our nation’s diverse community of Atheists, Freethinkers, Secular Humanists and others who do not embrace religious creeds marched together for civil rights, the separation of state and church, and their full recognition as American citizens.

We demanded "a place at the table" in this great discussion known as democracy. (continued)

1. As an atheist, I've often wished we had some symbol that could be worn
indicating that belief. Christians have the cross, Jews the star of David, we need something. But I have no idea what.

2. What about the Atomic Symbol with the A in the center?
AA uses it. My partner says that atheists who are buried in military cemetaries can have it on their headstones.

9. AA uses it?
AA as in Alcoholics Anonymous? AA has a strong Christian bent.
Yes, I know they say "a higher being" or whatever,
but they clearly mean the Christian deity. They certainly
don't mean Einstein.

10. Slaps forehead
I foolishly assumed that you meant Alcoholics Anonymous rather
than American Atheists when you referred to AA. (slaps
forehead) Ignore my post in response.

4. I don't know about a symbol
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 09:10 PM by Midnight Rambler
Forgive me, but the idea of an athiest symbol a la the cross makes me a bit uncomfortable. I personally don't mind being an anonymous unbeliever with no creed to speak of, and I think the lack of a symbol reflects that. But that's just one athiest's opinion.

As far as a place at the table though, I'm all for that.

5. I guess I'm just offended by all of the impertinent questions people
feel free to ask about my religious affiliations based upon their religious assumptions.
