Pope Meets With Dissident Theologian
Pope Meets With Dissident Theologian

VATICAN CITY -- Pope Benedict XVI met with one of his fiercest critics, the dissident Swiss theologian Hans Kung, and the two had a "friendly" theological discussion, the Vatican said Monday.

The meeting occurred Saturday, Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said in a statement.

"The two agreed that there was no sense in entering, within the confines of the meeting, in a dispute surrounding the persistent doctrinal questions between Hans Kung and the magisterium of the Catholic Church," the statement said.

The two did, however, discuss other theological issues, including the question of global ethics and the dialogue between scientific reason and Christian faith, Navarro-Valls said.

Kung was stripped of the right to teach theology at the University of Tuebingen in Germany in 1979 after challenging Roman Catholic doctrines such as papal infallibility.

2. "stripped of the right to teach theology"
I see the right wing has been obstructing the work of universities for a long time before David Horowitz got into the business.

3. when did they stop?
actions like this frighten me more than any other one thing.

the corruption and take over of what is called the ''msm'' is the direct result of actions like these.

and it's one of the reasons why in these contemporary times i think ''moderates'' are actually extremists -- they continually enable those who would control us right down to the smallest elements. i.e. teachers in universities being gagged without real righteous indignation.

4. Of course B XVI also met with the head of SSPX
the far, far, tradionalist/throwback pre-Vatican II group that is also shismatic. It says so in the article.

There appears to be outreach to both sides.
