The second Minnesota elementary school in as many weeks--this time Rutherford Elementary in Stillwater--has been revealed to have censored a St. Paul, MN, award-winning children's author when she was asked to visit the school to talk about writing. The author, Lisa Westberg Peters, has written several books, once of which is "Our Family Tree" and deals with evolution. As in a Monticello (MN) school recently, Peters was asked not to talk about this particular book in her writing presentation at the Stillwater school because of its "controversial" nature. Peterson declined the invitations to speak when they insisted on censoring her.
The Monticello controversy was covered in the Star-Tribune recently:
http://www.startribune.com/stories/389/5399009.html There's a front-page article on the censorship at Rutherford Elementary in the Stillwater (MN) Gazette yesterday, May 16 (not online, unfortunately).
Is this happening elsewhere with this author? What have schools' response been?
