Paper threatened over drawings of Muhammad

Associated Press in Copenhagen
Thursday October 13, 2005
The Guardian

Danish Muslims condemned one of the country's largest newspapers yesterday for publishing drawings of the Prophet Muhammad.

On September 30, the Jyllands-Posten daily printed 12 drawings by Danish cartoonists who had been asked to illustrate the prophet. Islam bans depictions of Muhammad. A group of 16 Muslim organisations issued a statement demanding an apology.

Jyllands-Posten, citing freedom of speech, said it would not apologise. The paper said it has received several threats after printing the drawings, which have been reported to the police.

1. I swear I am not trying to be funny
but I always wondered why there are no depictions of him in medieval art. You'd think as an art teacher I might have known that? I didn't.

All running scared of the women who bring them into this life.

7. That does seem to be at the root of it.
There's another story posted on DU that mentions muslim fundies in holland who refuse to shake the hand of a government minister... because she is a woman.

Can you imagine travelling to another country and being so incredibly, obnoxiously rude? Then claiming the excuse "it's my religion"? What horrible people.

:puke:
