Christian group wants to 'redeem' US states
By Harriet McLeod

CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) - Cory Burnell wants to set up a Christian nation within the United States where abortion is illegal, gay marriage is banned, schools cannot teach evolution, children can pray to Jesus in public schools and the Ten Commandments are posted publicly.

To that end, Burnell, 29, left the Republican Party, moved from California and founded Christian Exodus two years ago with the goal of redirecting the United States by "redeeming" one state at a time.

First up for redemption is South Carolina.

Burnell hopes to move 2,500 Christians into the northern part of the state by next year and to persuade tens of thousands to relocate by 2016. His goal is to fill the state legislature with "Christian constitutionalists."

The push comes at a time when Christian fundamentalism is a growing force in U.S. politics, displays of the Ten Commandments in government buildings are spurring litigation and President George W. Bush is touting the evangelical Christian credentials of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.

3. Here is an idea
Have them all move to Texas, and let them secede from the union. Texas is the only state that can secede without a fight, and it would solve lots of problems for us right there.

7. Doesn't he still live in California? With no plans to move soon?
I understand that there have been a total of 4 people who moved. Although the job offer for the hubby probably played a large role.

at this rate . . .

8. Redeemed like Green Stamps?
What could this Christian group get for a 200+ year old country that is starting to turn a bit despotic with age? A new toaster oven? A color TV?

The article didn't say.

9. this is one of the reasons my ancestors fled
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 04:55 AM by RedXIII
england because england started persecuting people on religion.
And one thing that gets me is no one like the buddists want their own religon taught at school so how come they want their religion taught because i think if they teach intellegent design they should also teach the beliefs of other cultures like how the hawaiians beleve the world was created because freedom of religion means all religons and i'm american of eurasian hawaii ancestry.

10. What's unbelievably disappointing for me personally is......
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 04:19 AM by Thom Little
.......that I actually live in upstate South Carolina and I really can see why extremist, hate-maniac lunatics would want to move here so they could hook up with other people who are just as evil as they are.

This place is a hatemonger's heaven for every theocratic racist Nazi who's ever walked the planet. Confederate battle flags literally blanket the earth. Racism is not only everywhere, it's openly spewed every day of the week. I can't tell you how depressing it is that I live here. My only saving grace is that I'll be moving to D.C. in 8 months.

GOOD GOD, I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THERE!!

12. I think that's old news, but I like it.
If an idea causes conservatives to leave the Republican party and better our chances of winning due to their getting less votes, then I'm for it. Let them have their fanatical party.

13. Cory Burnell = Traitor
Cory Burnell and any that follow him are traitors.

Check out Christian Exodus which details the plans to convert South Carolina in to a new Christian eden.

I'm beyond being amazed that this level of ignorance exists in America. These nutjobs are dangerous and they have millions of followers which esopuse the notion of Christian Reconstruction - rebuiding America as a theocracy. Honestly - the morons want to mire this country in their own version of Plesantville.

http://www.theocracywatch.org/yurica_weyrich_manual.htm">Theocracy Watch has loads of good research in to the shenanigans of these freaks.
