Vatican calls for larger families

Sainthood beckons for 'Mamma Rosa' as Vatican calls for larger families
By Hilary Clarke in Rome
(Filed: 07/11/2005)

An Italian farmer's wife who brought up 12 children was beatified at Vicenza Cathedral in northern Italy yesterday amid a Vatican campaign to encourage larger families.

Even non-believers in the village of Marola where Eurosia Fabris (1866-1932) spent most of her life probably called her a saint.

She took care of two orphans, which she continued after marrying and having nine children of her own, as well as leaving her home open to others, gaining her the nickname Mamma Rosa.

The beatification followed Pope Benedict XVI's granting of an audience to 2,500 parents and children of Italian families with six or more children last week.

At the occasion, the new Pope called on governments to adopt policies to encourage larger families.

2. Adoption is a good policy
Raise and nurture those who are already born into the world. But nowadays, to choose to have a large family knowing that the environment is under strain from overpopulation seems to me to smack of a certain lack of information or concern about the planet. I apologize to any here who favor large families. Please realize that this is my opinion.

8. Straining the environment and the social systems IS THEIR GOAL!
The more chaos and disorder is created in the world, the sooner "The Second Coming" can happen.

The Catholic Church (along with Bush and the other Dominionists) want to trigger a global apocalypse and their "pro-life" breeding policy is just one part of it.

3. Does His Holiness have new information regarding an increase
in planetary resources so everybody in those larger families across the world will have enough food and shelter? That would be good news, indeed.

4. Because we know that Europe is under-populated
I mean, it's practically a desert here, isn't it? It's not as if we've pumped out too much CO2 into the air or anything, is it? That's right, Benedict, what this planet needs now is more consumption.

Benedict, you old fraud, you just want more Catholic babies so you get more people to order around. And you don't give a toss if you screw the planet, or non-Catholics, in the process.

6. That is a grossly irresponsible thing to
be promoting. I would promote adopting children but not having more. Geez. Like there aren't enough problems with overpopulation.

9. Makes sense
After all, if Catholic families stop having large families, then the donations stop, and Popey and all the other gold-wearing big dogs won't be kept in the manner in which they are accustomed.

12. True
This has been the official policy for much of the early part of last century. Only after Vatican II did the quasi-mandatory policy become much more flexible.

This is part trying to dig up the past with the current movement in the Church. And also probably part to the reported problems with the Vatican Bank. They may need to refill the coffers.

10. I guess he wants to send women back to the 1950s....
where the menfolk keep 'em barefoot and preggers.

I grew up with a lot of kids from large families (mine was always suspect to the nuns because there were only two kids). Many of those now adults have one or more siblings whose guts they hate.

13. What a moronic thing to support..
We should be encouraging people to have less kids, not more. People should not have more than one kids untill we get the world population down to around 500 million. If people don't quit poping out so many kids we will eventually be forced to use china-type population control crap just to survive withour wrecking the planet. :grr:
