Pope Benedict XVI today said an Italian anti-abortion group was writing “pages of hope” for the future of humanity.
Speaking to about 60 members of the For Life Movement in St Peter’s Square for his weekly public audience, the pope praised the group’s defence of what he said was the dignity of the human person “from conception to natural death".
In particular, he praised efforts to incorporate a support system for women and families in their campaign. “Working to prevent voluntary abortion, while offering support for women and families, you contribute to write pages of hope for the future of humanity,” the pope said.
The group of mainly young people, in Rome for a convention, were among the 22,000 pilgrims and tourists who gathered under cloudy skies for the audience.
