1. Or even better have a cartoon of christ molesting a child and see how
they would react to that.

2. They already have plenty of cartoons that insult Christ.
But you don't see Christians attacking people over Family Guy and South Park and the like, now, do you? Christians don't kill people because of cartoons. Christians kill people because of WMD's that don't exist.
:nuke:

3. Christians don't murder anyone...
People claiming to be Christians, however, have done some pretty nasty things, as have people claiming to be all manner of religions.

(I say murder instead of kill becaue there is a difference.)

4. Welcome to DU
However, it is a cop-out to claim that the people who commit atrocities in the name of Christianity are not "real Christians". If a person claims they are a Christian they are a Christian, period. They may not exhibit very Christ-like behavior, but that does not mean they are not a Christian--it simply means they are a bad Christian. (The same goes for followers of any religion).

Christian
1. believer in Jesus Christ as savior: somebody whose religion is Christianity

If that was the case than by simply making the claim to be the POTUS I would be. But sorry, people can claim to be anything they wish.

But it doesn't make it so.

And the fuss over the cartoons was overblown, and by the media. A few thousand people caused chaos and the media would make you think the entire Muslim world had gone into chaos over these drawings.

6. Religion is a personal thing
The only human being who is qualified to say whether I'm a Christian or not is - me.

And you may have your own view, but there's nothing you can say that will make me concede to you the authority to decide whether or not I am a Christian. Only God has the right to overrule me on that question. So "people claiming to be Christians" are Christians, and you don't have the right to contradict them unless you can show that you have superior knowledge of the mind of God.

And the "fuss" about the cartoons caused several dozen deaths and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic damage. In what sense was it "overblown"?

7. I'd be happy if religion were personal
A man is a Christian if he believes in Christ as his Savior. To claim that real Christians wouldn't do such things is to add to the definition, something along the lines of: A man is a Christian if he believes in Christ as his Savior...and acts in ways I approve of.

Oh, and to clear up something above: the cartoon of a muslim man being raped by a dog (while laying prostrate in prayer) was not published by any newspaper, some people just claim that it was. If anybody's curious, look up the original newspaper article yourselves, it's on wikipedia.

The story was overblown in the sense that the impression was given that the Muslim world was about to go up in flames. It wasn't.
