Gay Anglicans Reprimand Archbishop
http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/12/121504anglicans.htm

A Christmas message from the leader of the world's Anglican's has drawn sharp criticism from gay clergy and laity.

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan William's Advent letter to the Primates of the Anglican Communion said that many gays feel there is no good news for them in the Church. The letter also draws attention to the violent, and sometimes deadly, consequences to gays of Church leaders who call LGBT people “animals”; “lower than dogs” and “subhuman”.

But, the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement says Williams' letter did not go far enough.

1. I heard an interview with Gene Robinson on NPR last week
I was very impressed. He is the openly gay Episcopalean bishop in New Hampshire.

He remarked on how little support he got from the upper reaches of the church hierarchy, but that he felt that he wasn't necessarily bound by their decisions. Something about church authority and so forth.

I think he was sensitive to the fact that anyone be perceived as the leader of the world's Anglicans because the structure is much looser than that.

I'm not an Anglican so I don't really know.

In any case, I really liked what the bishop was saying about how understanding his congregations have been, and how it helped him on his own spiritual journey.

It certainly made the people who came on later threatening to split from the church seem very small.

2. He preached at my church over the summer
It wasn't the first time he had been there, as we co-hosted the General Convention in 2003. Of course, the MSM covered nothing but Gene Robinson, even though he was only one item on a huge agenda.

When he went up to the pulpit, he said that it was a relief to pick up the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that morning and not see himself on the front page. Then he went on to preach on the Gospel for the day, and very well, I may add.
