TIFFIN - Twenty-one undocumented immigrants allegedly have been forced to stand naked in the Seneca County jail in an attempt to get them to sign documents that would expedite their deportation, a claim that

referred questions to the public affairs officer for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,

a division of

Homeland Security's office in Detroit.

Greg Palmore, a spokesman for ICE in Detroit, said yesterday the allegation was without merit...

"Our policy has as its foundation the safe and humane treatment of detainees within their custody," he said, adding that the policy extends to facilities such as Seneca County contracted to house detainees for ICE...

2. We need laws to restore civil liberties.
In the 1990s, there was a supposed crisis that prisoners were filing too many lawsuits and the supposed solution was that their right to sue had to be curtailed.

The Republican Congress passed a bill signed by President Bill Clinton which largely bars lawsuits by prisoners based on humiliating treatment.

We torture combatants don't we?
We got rid of Habeas Corpus didn't we?
We have blurred the line between terror and war haven't we?

4. Just like in the concentration camps. How nice.
Our government has rotted from the top down. They know they have tacit permission to do this.

The government once tried to get my grandfather to sign papers for his deportation. He returned home on a writ of habeas corpus.
