Catholic bishop criticizes R.I. attorney general on gay marriage
February 22, 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --Harsh words today from Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin, who's criticizing Rhode Island's top lawyer for backing gay marriage.

Earlier this week, Attorney General Patrick Lynch issued a non-binding opinion saying that he saw nothing in Rhode Island law preventing the state from recognizing the unions of same-sex couples married in Massachusetts.

In a written statement, Tobin says Lynch's thinking has been influenced by the -- quote -- "relentless gay agenda."

The Catholic Bishop of Providence says it's ironic Lynch's decision was announced on Ash Wednesday, which starts a traditional period of repentance and prayer. Tobin calls the decision another reason to pray for forgiveness.

A spokesman for Lynch did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

1. It would be nice if Lynch, or someone else in government
told the Catholic Church to stay out of public policy.

2. The relentless gay agenda: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Musty old clerics with musty old minds... :puke:

Is love and commitment, family and security, really so terrible?

excuse me -- i'm christian and all -- but what do you call the christian agenda -- other than relentless?
especially over the last few hundred years -- it covered for slavery, mysogeny{Still does}, war, etc.

take the log from your own eye, bishop...
