1. I hadn't even thought of renouncing my citizenship.
Just living abroad. What is bothersome about the piece you linked to (and thanks for that, by the way -- good info) is that it just seems to me the only reason they really want to discourage you from doing it is because they see a taxpayer slipping through their grasp.

My preference would be to stay, under an Obama administration, and work to help get this country back on track. If the Repubs win, I think it's a lost cause.

2. My son and I just rec'd our passport cards - We live on the Mexican border.
My dentist is there and he is real good one - likewise for my son's car repairman. Things are gonna get tough and I want to be certain I can get back home.

Yuma may be the armpit of the world when it comes to heat and humidity BUT we don't have hurricanes, tornados, floods, fires or pollution and sunshine damn near 365 days a year - IT COULD BE WORSE!!!

4. I'm with you. Stay if Obama wins. Otherwise, find a way out of this mega-crime family. n/t

3. I'm several steps away from renouncing citizenship, even if . . .
McBush wins his third term. It is often embarassing to be identified as an American overseas these days (and I was physically challenged once by an angry leftist in Athens), so I sometimes joke that I'm Canadian.

All things being equal, I'd prefer to be proud of my country, like I was (warts and all) before Schimpanski came on the scene.

But I'm hopeful. Even if the worst happens, I'll just stay out of the country for four more years, in the hopes that someone non-crazy will be elected next time. I mean, given how crapped out things are now, do you think any Republican could win after a McCain term?

Unless, of course, Obama wins and gets tarred with the brush of the collapse of the world economy and becomes unelectable, which is one of the real risks this time around.

But renounce citizenship -- I'm not at that pass yet. Besides, all the countries I'd actually like to live in are high-tax and pretty cozy with the US government anyway.

5. I'll never renounce my citizenship!
Every good Democrat needs to stay here and keep our numbers strong, and fight the good fight. Besides, if the economy does collapse, no country in the world will be safe from that.

6. I'm not planning on renouncing my citizenship, just leaving the country forever.
