Among religious Americans, poll shows Catholics favored Bush over Kerry
http://www.wvgazette.com/section/APNews/News/ap0536n

John Kerry managed the best showing in decades for a Democratic presidential candidate among mainline Protestants, but his failure to capture a majority of Roman Catholics -- people of his own faith -- gave President Bush an important advantage in last November's election, according to a new survey.

Bush's showing also improved dramatically among Hispanic Protestants, 63 percent of whom supported him in 2004 -- a 31 percent gain over 2000.

The postelection phone survey of 2,730 people, conducted by the University of Akron and sponsored by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, is a close study of voting behavior and religious faith.

1. One of the reasons I left the Catholic church is because of...
... their teaching of the dogma that they can essentially block your passage to heaven. When that fucking bishop in St. Louis was saying that people who voted for Kerry should be denied Communion he was essentially saying "Vote against Bush and I will block your path to heaven.".

That should have been the signal for an objective Legislature to pull the tax exempt status of the Catholic church. Hell, that step might have even helped Kerry with the evangelicals.

2. I wonder if they were getting a message from the Dept. of Justice?
There's no statute of limitations on prosecuting pedophilia cases.

Remember how focused and concerted the national media was on that story a few years back? I remember when the Church was an advocate of social justice back 20-30 years ago. They've been nuetralized, maybe even swung over to the darkside by the corporate Republican media machine and a Justice Department that is politically motivated.

3. I disagree with your categorisation of the Bishops
Most conservative Catholics I know are at best luke-warm on Bush. It was far more an anti-Kerry move than a pro-Bush one.

I can see your point about denial of Communion, but it wasn't a pro-Bush point.
