2. I've heard of him...a tin-foil hatter with a community access show
talks about him all the time.

The show is called "Wake Up Call, with Al Wilson". Wilson talks about Dr. Scott as being his pastor, and about government attempts to harm Dr. Scott.

The guy says some pretty far out stuff on the show, so I take it with a grain of salt.

5. Oh no, he actually has followers that are part of the media?
(in a manner of speaking). That is SOOOO scary!

I've long held the belief that Gene Scott is the leader of a cult. I can't imagine anyone feeling the need to harm him in any way. But I do hold the belief he is dangerous...

3. He's scary. I've seen him on TV a few times here in the
Las Angeles area. Seems almost like a cult-leader to me in that he tries to control his 'flock' completely.

I'm new to the area, so I'm sure others can write more about him than I can.

6. Do you mean this guy?

Yeah, I used to watch him on some cable show about 15 odd years ago. Is he still around? He once was giving away a book that he wrote about the pyramids on his show. You just needed to call them up and they'd send you the book. I did so, they sent the book and I never heard anything from them again.

btw, the book was interesting though not at all what I expected. That guy was fun to watch, I'll say that.

8. Here's a link to an article about him.
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 02:28 AM by bliss_eternal
It was written and printed in the Los Angeles Times magazine in 1994. I was so pleased to read this article, as it validated many of my feelings about this guy and his congregation.

I lost someone that I once cared for to this guy and his church. Someone that I never would have imagined could or would be sucked in by someone like this.

This person played their radio in their home 24/7--whether anyone was home or not. Why? They told me that Dr. G. Scott told the entire congregation to do this, to aid in combating evil spirts and influences in their homes. :eyes:

Anyway, here's the link

9. Wow, thanks
It's a long article, so I didn't read the whole thing yet, but that certainly gives me a little more insight on this crazy dude I watched once in awhile way back when... had no idea... i found him to be entertaining in a weird sort of public access television sort of way, I had no idea he was pulling in a million a month and actually had that many followers.

I assumed he just made up all the stuff about himself that he always talked about. It seemed that he would just sit down record himself ranting on about some such thing for an hour or two and then put it on a loop with intermittant calls for cash like most run-of-the-mill televangelists.

11. No--nothing 'run of the mill' about this guy--he's scary.
Not to say that some of the other televangelists aren't scary in their own ways. This guy's followers--they seem to have such a vehement devotion, it's quite cult like.

There's tons of money, he has a museum, property, etc. Yet no one seems to be able to make a thing stick to him (in terms of charges). Something is rather odd, when people aren't allowed to attend his services without an invitation. And the people closest to him (guards and such) have guns and artillery. What does he need protection from?

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can even make sense of a thing he says. The few times I've tried to listen to him, I can't discern anything from his random babbling. Then when you think he's going to actually support or break down a point he's made, he scribbles indecipherable nonsense on the blackboard.

I don't get him or anyone that follows him--it's all a mystery to me.
