the bird thought extinct was "rediscovered" in Arkansas 2004

These guys resemble the pileated woodpecker, which thrives around my home here in West Virginia. I've never known them to come to a suet feeder, but it looks like the one in this picture is doing just that I don't cut down any dead trees on my 20 acres of woodland. That helps ensure they have what they need: lots of ants and big fat worms to dig out of the dead wood, and places to live.

The pileated woodpecker has been considered the largest woodpecker in North America, but only because the Ivory-billed woodpecker was thought to have been extinct.

3. I think you mean Imperial Woodpecker
The Ivory-billed never occurred in Mexico. The Imperial is a very close cousin but distinct species found only in Mexico. Both threatened by extinction. Very good news for the Imperial!
