'Darkest ever' material created
The "darkest ever" substance known to science has been made in a US laboratory.

The material was created from carbon nanotubes - sheets of carbon just one atom thick rolled up into cylinders.

Researchers say it is the closest thing yet to the ideal black material, which absorbs light perfectly at all angles and over all wavelengths.

The discovery is expected to have applications in the fields of electronics and solar energy.

2. Very interesting.
Maybe this is a way to put some of that excess carbon that's causing so many problems to good, clean, productive use?

4. Wrap a container of water with this stuff, put it on your roof and enjoy
free heat and hot water. I wish I had some money to invest in nanotech.

6. I was amazed....
...by a documentary on the "Race to Absolute Zero" I saw last night. Science has achieved a Bose-Einstein Condensate, a new form of matter, achieved at just a hair above absolute zero (zero degrees on Kelvin scale).

It can absorb light, slow it down from 186,000 mps to the speed of a bicycle, then release it!

10. It's the wild colour scheme that freaks me
Every time you try to operate on of these weird black controls that are labelled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up black to let you know you've done it.

12. This material will make objects invisible to many remote sensors.
Zero reflectance. Hmm... I bet it is already being used.
