Louisiana Legislature passes 'creation bill' - Will the governor sign it?
Louisiana legislature passes 'creation bill' -- Opponents: “The Bible was never intended to be a science textbook”

The Louisiana Coalition for Science is hoping Gov. Bobby Jindal will remember his biology degree from prestigious Brown University when he decides whether to veto SB 733, the “Louisiana Science Education Act.”

2. But degrees in biology and public policy??
All those millions of scientists calling his judgement into question has to make him a bit uncomfortable. Not to mention the guarantee that it will cost the state millions in court battles that they are sure to lose.

The Christian right never lets common sense stand in their way.

7. I don't know. We pulled the "recall" word and he is running scared.
He needs to be. The right pilloried Kathleen Babineau Blanco, and it was despicable. She was a good governor.

3. SENATE BILL NO. 733 below.
http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/streamdocument.asp?did=498719

assist teachers, principals, and other school administrators to create and foster
an environment within public elementary and secondary schools that promotes
critical thinking skills, logical analysis, and open and objective discussion of
scientific theories being studied including, but not limited to, evolution, the
origins of life, global warming, and human cloning.
(2) Such assistance shall include support and guidance for teachers
regarding effective ways to help students understand, analyze, critique, and
objectively review scientific theories being studied, including those enumerated
in Paragraph (1) of this Subsection.

C. A teacher shall teach the material presented in the standard textbook
supplied by the school system and thereafter may use supplemental textbooks
and other instructional materials to help students understand, analyze, critique,
and review scientific theories in an objective manner, as permitted by the city,

State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

D. This Section shall not be construed to promote any religious doctrine,

rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this Section prior
to the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.

4. I would suggest a caveat be added to the bill
For balance sake (and in no way to construe that anyone is fucking with the separation of church and state) that evolution be required instruction in every christian church in Louisiana; a minimum of one hour will be dedicated to the instruction of Evolution from the pulpit (preferably from unwashed long haired hippie scum with Doctorate Degrees) whenever a christian church holds services.

Wow, imagine the caterwauling and reexamination of the separation stuff huh??

5. Amen.
Sad that an entire state government has been hijacked, at least temporarily, by the Constitution-haters.

The bill was 35-0 (4 absent)in the senate and 94-3 (7 absent) in the house.

6. I guess it's like, if * says we don't torture, nothing we do can "be construed" as torture.

Are these people so delusional that they think adding a provision telling people how to interpret the law has any legal or intellectual merit?

Imagine what they could have done with Jim Crow laws...

This Section shall not be construed to promote any racial doctrine or to promote discrimination for or against a particular race.<\i>

They could have headed off that whole unnecessary and unpleasant civil rights movement if only they'd had the benefit of modern reality-crafting techniques!

:sarcasm: (just in case...)
