Buy/donate a "Galileoscope" ($15)
Very cool...

The Galileoscope™ is a joint effort of the International Astronomical Union's Galileoscope task group and the American Astronomical Society's Telescope Kits & Optics Challenges working group, with educational support from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

The Galileoscope enables kids of all ages to build and observe with a telescope similar to (but much better than) Galileo's. Sharing these observations with as many people as possible, and encouraging parents, teachers, students, and others to think about their importance, addresses one of the main goals of IYA2009: Promote widespread access to new knowledge and observing experiences.

* Choose "Get Some" to buy Galileoscopes for yourself or friends/family at U.S. $15 each (1-99 units) or $12.50 each (100+ units), plus shipping.
* Choose "Give Some" to donate Galileoscopes anonymously at U.S. $12.50 each with no shipping charges (this donation is not tax-deductible).
* Choose "Give Some, Get Some" to buy some Galileoscopes for delivery and others for anonymous donation in one convenient order!

2. That's great! Ordered one as well.
My son is really into astronomy now, but there are so many trees around us that a fancy telescope probably wouldn't really be worth it. But this is perfect! Thanks!!!

4. Couple of videos...
You can't beat the price and they paid some nice attention to detail that really doesn't add any cost, like internal baffles to cut down on interference from stray light. The objective lens is an glass achromatic (to address chromatic aberration) something you never see on the cheapest scopes. The eye pieces are plastic but they are a standard 1.25" mount so you can always upgrade them.

And here's how it breaks down:

Here's a video of the moon using this scope:

7. Nice
... and thanks for the Calvin. I recently came across a great Bill Watterson quote:

"There's not enough time to do all the nothing we want to do."
