Please help! Rahall-Whitfield Amendment, H.R. 297

Please be aware of the tragic slaughter of our wild horses living out west. A vote on the Rahall-Whitfield Amendment, H.R. 297, which would restore protections for them is taking place this Thursday, May 19th. Therefore, it is *crucial* that each of us contact our Federal Representative now to urge him/her to VOTE YES ON H.R. 297.

Here's an update from the Humane Society of the U.S.:

Wild horses, a beloved and cherished symbol of our nation's heritage, have been protected from sale and slaughter for over 30 years. However, a stealth amendment -- snuck into a massive budget bill at the end of last year -- has allowed these horses to be commercially sold once again.

In recent weeks, at least 41 wild mustangs were sold by the government and then, within days, resold to an Illinois slaughterhouse. We cannot let this continue!

Congress will be considering the Rahall-Whitfield Amendment, H.R. 297, to ensure that tax dollars are never used for sales of wild horses that could lead to their slaughter. This week, when this amendment is being considered, we must reach every single member of the U.S. House of Representatives to secure their votes for the Rahall-Whitfield amendment.

Contact YOUR FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVE at his/her D.C. office (to determine who is yours, visit www.hsus.org/leglookup <http://www.hsus.org/leglookup> ). Ask to speak with the legislative staffer who handles animal protection issues. Politely ask this staffer to urge your Representative to
