I have missed you all SOOOOOOO Much!!
Didn't have a star since before Thanksgiving, and I missed posting to many a thread but read almost every one.
Since August, my monthly grocery shop has happened twice, and I've used up many of my cache of food, but what I missed most was being able to post here. Hope everyone is well, and it is great being back here.

2. Lotsa rice and noodles LOL
We didn't even have bread or eggs at the end.

Now I plan on freezing any leftovers that don't get eaten in 4 days. I almost cried when I thought of all the food that got wasted prior to the "dry" time.

I have 2 refrigerators with small on top freezers, and I stuff them full as I can.

In the next few months. I'll be stocking up on dried peas and beans, rice, and noodles. I read with interest the thread about patio gardens and think I'll try something this spring.

We lived on a lot of soup from Tgiving turkey stock and made great split pea soup from leftover ham from Christmas - both the leftovers cane from my father in law where we had both dinners.

3. bread is cheap to make on weekends
i bought my bread flour last weekend and figured for what I spent on bulk flour i could make 6 loaves for the price of a decent loaf at the grocery store.

no eggs is tougher..... but at a $1 a dozen I'd probably panhandle for em

4. I wish I was a bread maker
I don't even have yeast. LOL

I tried making bisquick biscuits but they didn't trn out right. And the flour I had has black weevils in it. I sifted them out and have to use that flour until I can get more. I _DO_ plan on getting yeast and trying some bread next month.

The only thing worse than being cut off from DU is being cut off from C&B. :hi:

7. It's been rough being out of C&B
I started a few threads in DU Lounge on cooking, recently.

One was

for new recipes and one was about chicken fried steak recipes.

6. Here's free yeast
http://home.att.net/~carlsfriends /

Someone here alerted me to this. Send a SASE, and they'll send you some yeast you can keep alive in your fridge with just a little flour and water. I haven't bought yeast since I got some of this. I make the Alaska sourdough bread as my main bread. One half recipe makes a big loaf, with the big loaf pan, not the standard pan.
