The Devil Made Me Order This (That Devil, AZDem!!)
AZDem linked me to The Vermont Country Store when I mentioned how I wish I could find Maypo! The box arrived today!!

Well, I started out with just the Maypo, but then I noticed these brandied cherries on sale. I love cherries, so how could I resist?

Then I noticed they have Horlick's Malted Milk Tablets!! My Mom used to buy these in big jars, and since it was usually the only sweet around, my sisters and I ate tons of them. I just HAD to get some to take to the sister reunion this Summer (if they last that long)!

What's this? They have Lavoris!! I remember that! Well, Sparkly Jr. likes cinnamon so I'll get it for her and just "borrow" some.

Then I saw the Sweetheart soap -- I didn't even know they still made it! I wanted to remember how it smells, and the only way is to order some.

While I'm at it, I decided to try out this Droyt's glycerin soap -- since it's on sale!

Omigod, they still make Boroleum? This stuff was made on Fisher's Island, and after I left New England I could never find it!! A MUST-HAVE!!

And of course, for H2S, the "Tired Old Ass Soak." (I won't mention that my ass is none too young and rather tired too...)

And finally, one more thing on sale: miniature replicas of old-fashioned ornaments. Too keyooot!!

Naturally, I hold AZDem completely responsible for my shopping spree.

2. I am not EVEN going to look that up
to see what bag balm is. (Does it work?)

And, not that I'm looking in the catalogue they sent in the box, but I wonder whether "warm cream" works on "chronically cold hands..."

3. Bag Balm is terrific on my crackly elbows and heals
It was originally created for chapped cows udders. It comes in a lovely green tin and works like a charm.

although I haven't the guts to try that.Great for cuticles and many other things, especially cracked heels.

5. You guys are so not helping...
Have you tried Shepard's Lotion? Also hard to find...

I'm amazed at the things in this catalogue I'd forgotten all about -- from Lollipop undies to Dippity-Do to Beeman's and Teaberry gum to 4711 aftershave to banana split candies...

20. And REAL Lanz of Austria Flannels and pima cotton nightgowns
I love Vermont Country store..

I order stuff from a couple of old timey websites.. I order Campbell's beef 7 noodle soup (huisband's favorite) by the case.. also walnettos & dominos granulated brown sugar, and black jack & clove gum..

This stuff is STILL made, it's just that "modern" stores sell shelf space to the highest bidder.. enter Pepsico & Coke :grr:

21. I live in the home of Pima Cotton
so called for being grown here in Pima County Arizona. It's very interesting that the Pima Indians own the land east of Scottsdale and lease it to farmers who grown (mainly) cotton.

the pic is amazing, the city just STOPS and here's the farm land

14. hmmm, I really have managed to lose most of my "Gotta Haves"
but over Christmas we went to a Tea Shoppe in Shreveport where I picked up a jar of Cherry jelly that hubby now calls the "orgasmic jelly" cuz of the noises I made after the first bite....

but I'm covered cuz my stepmom is sending me some for our wedding anniversary (along with some Jalepeno Jelly for Mr. K) from this innocent little place over in the Texas hill country.

www.shopncf.com

but don't click the link, there will be nothing of interest there, at all. Nope, no siree, nothing there to see at all..............

:scared:

Meanwhile, I have to tell you H2S's response to the Sweetheart soap (and hope it isn't too X-rated). "Does this smell familiar?" I asked, passing a bar under his nose.

"Oh yeah!" He said. "I remember that! It smells like GIRLS used to. And if I keep smelling it, I'm gonna get horny, then I'm gonna figure I can't get any, then I'm gonna worry about getting blueballs, so keep it away from me."

(PS: edited to add, I did ask him if I could post that before I did.)

28. I made the Maypo!!
Every bit as yummy as I remember, with brown sugar and whole milk. H2S liked it, too (although, despite my putting extra sugar on his, he said it wasn't sweet enough!).

I'm still a little afraid to eat one of those Horlick's malted milk tablets, though!

16. What??? No Walnettos??? They even have Chocolettos!!!
How could you resist? I went to their website to order some of those plastic bowl covers and thought I might order a pkg. of Walnettos and one of Bounty candy bars (which I would give my hat and front seat in hell for), but the bowl covers are temporarily out-of-stock, so I came away empty handed. I really could use some Boroleum though....

17. Are you from the Northeast originally?
Or was Boroleum sold outside the area?

I don't know what Walnettos or Bounty bars are. (And at this point, I don't WANT to know!!)

Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 08:24 PM by jap
play a dirty old man character on "Laugh In" show (probably before your time), who always said that. Walnettos are a caramel candy with chopped walnuts. I don't think they're in very wide distribution any more, although I have seen them in Cracker Barrel. Bounty candy bars are like Mounds only much better--coconut logs covered in milk or dark chocolate.

Re: Boroleum. Someone turned me onto it years ago and I've always just bought it from Vermont Country Store. I think there are some other online purveyors of it, though. Never lived in the Northeast.

22. I grew up right near the store
they started out with a little, but thick, paper catalog. You go in the store and it's just chock full of all sorts of stuff from way back when...

Now it's one of the largest mail order places in the region, and yet you go in the store and it still seems small... yet crammed with stuff.

23. Tangee Lipstick, Evening in Paris Perfume,
When I was a kid, Woolworth's sold Tangee for 15 cents(no cents sign on keyboard, never noticed before.) Ladies, remember the smell of that lipstick? I think, Evening in Paris was $2.00 for powder and perfume. Vermont Country Store sells it but it is something like &50.00 for the perfume. They also have Lifebuoy Soap, about 3.00 a bar. Remember the red cakes? Fun to look anyway.
This place is a great mirror on the past. Also check out Lehman's in Ohio. www.lehmans.com . They sell..of all things, Cloverine Salve. Remember that stuff advertised in the comics of the 40's? Sell this door to door to make money.

26. CTRL "c" not "x" "x" will cut it out, c is for copy as for the others
open a word document, on the top go to "Insert" choose "Symbols" it will pop up a new window, choose "Arial" for the font name from the pull down menu and it will have a bunch of symbols there, click the symbol you want, click insert, copy it (CTRL c) then paste it here (CTRL v) and Voila!

At my age, this is a huge project. My 5 year old granddaughter is ahead of me. I need a "elementary computers for seniors" (I have Windows for Dummies. I flunked out.) Trouble with the self-help books is that they presume you already know something!
