Ham sauce/accompaniment?
I've struggeled with this for years - what is the best sauce/accompaniment to ham?

I've tried Portland sauces, raisin sauce, red gravies, Jezebel sauce (my 2nd runner-up) etc. and I have to say, I have settled on:

Mustard Caper Sauce

which is:

melt some butter or butter-like stuff with some chopped up capers in it. ( A blob of butter and about a Tablespoon of chopped capers)

whisk in some Dijon Mustard

whisk in some heavy cream

You can figure the amounts yourself - some will like it creamier, some will like it mustardier.

Anyway, in my opinion, you can't beat this for a ham flavor enhancer. Also works great for bioled dinners, pork chops, etc. Also very yummy with artichokes.

Everyone loved this with ham dinner today. It's a nice alternative to all that fruit stuff that people serve with ham.

1. I'm not a huge mustard fan, but that sounds good
I always passed up the icky sweet fruit sauces. I passed up the ham when I could avoid it, not possible at the MIL's.

3. I've always been partial to creamed onions.
They've been a traditional Easter side dish in my family for longer than I've been alive, but I like slathering them directly on my ham.

4. Horseradish and beets
I grew up having ham and kielbasa with a relish made from grated beets mixed with horseradish (unfortunately I don't know what the Polish name for it is). Your mustard and caper sauce sounds delicious - I like the idea of savory rather than sweet flavors with ham.

5. I'm not a big fan of ham, but I LOOOOVE the ham loaf my
mom and grandmother used to fix. Half ground pork, half ground ham, other stuff, loaf baked in oven, glazed with brown sugar, served with the most extraordinary horseradish sauce (whipped fresh cream base).

6. Okay, don't laugh but
I love ham with whole fresh cranberry sauce on top. I love leftover ham on sandwiches with whole fresh cranberry sauce on top. LOL

When crans aren't available, it's gotta be a mustard so your idea sounds really great, too. :hi:

8. No laughter - Works with turkey, why not ham?
I think cranberry sauce is an excellent sandwich condiment.
