Made tiramisu tonight.
Having special company for dinner tomorrow so made it tonight to let all the flavors really bloom and so it will have a chance to chill really well.

We use Emeril Lagasse's recipe except for two things: We don't make the sponge cake; I like the imported crisp lady fingers instead. And anywhere the recipe says rum, we substitute Frangelico.

2. You'd always be welcome.
We've been making this on Christmas Eve since we got married as our own holiday tradition and we usually do it together. And you know, it's really not that difficult at all. The substitution of the Frangelico seemed like a natural since hazelnut is such a predominant flavoring in Italian sweets.

It's too bad we all live so far from each other. Can you imagine the potlucks this group could throw together! OMG! LOL

3. What time's dinner? I want to be the uninvited guest.
Tiramisu made with the crisp lady fingers is the best. The soft ones you get in the grocery stores around here are awful.

I'd love to crash your party but I have a date with my garden all day Sunday. Have a lovely time and eat a piece of that dessert with me in mind.
:hi:

4. You can get the
crisp imported lady fingers at Reasor's. The brand is Alessi. They also have Roland brand ones, too.

We'd love to have you for dinner sometime. Unfortunately, today ain't the day, sweetie! LOL

5. Is it better than the recipe on the side of the Alessi package?
'Cause I've had really good results with that one doing the Frangelico substitution and the mascarpone replacement that they suggest.

The Frangelico 'cause it sounded like it'd be good with that much coffee and the mascarpone replacement since its hard to find and the last time I tried it it had less flavor than butter.

I admit that I have my doubts about how well I'd like the orange note from the Grand Marnier..

Oh, and a link to the recipe http://originalrecipes.com/node/1565

p.s. the mascarpone substitution is "Try this substitute for mascarpone in this recipe: 16 ounces of cream cheese combined with 1/2 cup heavy cream and 5 tablespoons sour cream."

6. I've never made the one
on the package. Only Emeril's and it tasted so good, enough like the ones I've had in really nice restaurants, I've never tried it any other way. If I did try to change it, I think it would be grounds for divorce around here. No, really...it's his favorite favorite favorite thing in the world!
