Need helpful hint ! Just picked up a few goodies at the recycle.
I know how to clean the 12" (!) cast iron frying pan but how can I clean the 2 Aluminum commercial grade large sheet pans? One is in good condition, needs only a good Brillo scrub, the other needs a good soak and scour. Is Brillo and elbow grease my only option? It is just cooked on Crisco that has browned but is hard as a rock.

I have always borrowed this type pan from a neighbor because they are so expensive, now I have my own. I will earn the price in hours spent cleaning but it is worth it.

All hints appreciated.

1. Two ideas
There are those new grease scrubber pads out and they work pretty good. I bought them without the handle thing because I thought it was stupid.

The other that I did with the bottom of a Club aluminum kettle - regular engine degreaser. I forget the brand, it's in a purple container. Worked great. Just rinse really really really well.

2. Krud Kutter and/or Bar Keepers Friend.
Edited on Sat May-31-08 04:23 PM by sazemisery
Krud Kutter is environmentally safe and cuts through anything. I use it on my fireplace glass door and it wipes the muck away. It will cut through the grease on my hubby charcoal grill also. I bet it will clean that cookie sheet in no time.

Bar Keepers Friend is a powder like Comet but it doesn't scratch the surface. It is especially great for glass top stoves (for those of us unlucky to live in all electric homes).

I buy both at Lowe's but I'm sure Home Depot has it also.

edited for speling error

4. Put it in yur self cleaning oven and self-clean it
If it is baked on baking goop, it ought to come off ... or at least reduce to make cleaning easier.

5. I'd love to throw one of them in the oven but what is your thought?
They are aluminum...dumb thought on my part but since the oven gets so hot, will they warp --or somehow blacken or worse? I have thrown iron pans in but never aluminum.
Trying again this AM with the steel wool. uggg. Too much elbow grease required but I'm about 90% done. Won't do this again!

6. I'd have self-cleaning-ovened them
:)

It only gets to 800 or 900 degrees which won't hurt the aluminum.

8. Just took them out from a 1.25 hour cycle, they look like new!!!
Thank you for your suggestion. I'll just do a quick shine with Bar Keepers friend and plan my next Ice Cream Cake Roll. I wish I thought to ask yesterday, I'd have saved myself a lot of effort.
You are all great!
