Democratic snacks?
I'm thinking about snacks for Democratic themed parties, such as watching the debate tonight, as well as upcoming events.

Any ideas? What do you usually serve?

How about blue popcorn? Is that weird?

1. There actually is a blue popcorn
Made from blue corn. I should have realized this when I posted. I was thinking food coloring. Well, live and learn!

Someone posted about "Barack brownies" in another thread...I'm trying to find out what they entail.

7. Blue corn chips are wonderful
and most health food stores have them.

I'm thinking of red salsa, blue corn chips and white queso fresco.

2. I'm think you may
just have to use your imagination and a little creative alliteration applied to naming the snacks. Such as a luscious lemon cake I once baked for a party fundraiser for a local candidate. It came out somewhat unevenly baked so I just slapped a label on it that said, "Left-Leaning Lemon Cake."

There are also blue corn torilla chips.

4. Left-Leaning Lemon Cake...
I like it! Good idea.

I love blue tortilla chips...they should have given me a clue that such a thing as blue popcorn exists.

Hey, I just had an idea...blue french fries from blue potatoes!

6. How about just "left"overs?

Make sure you offer liberal serving sizes.

8. Blue potato salad.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:14 PM by yellerpup
The color comes back when blue potatoes cool off. Just use a clear vinaigrette dressing instead of mayo so you don't dull the color. There are blue potato chips, too.

edit for typo

12. I don't think I've cooked blue potatoes before
Though I've seen them. What do you mean by "the color comes back"?

I ended up making some blue popcorn...sort of. With food coloring. Not all that blue but it was well received.

13. Quiche of course

You can either make a whole quiche pie or serve those little mini quiches.

14. my favorite election night snacks....
About five years ago I ordered a Democratic donkey-shaped cookie cutter from the democraticstuff.com, and it's the single most used cookie cutter in my history :)

I've made cookies for debate night, election night, and taking in to my fellow volunteers at campaign headquarters. I've also used it to cut bread for sandwiches - very cute.

Here's the cutter - they still sell them, and for five bucks it's a bargain.

one of these. Will make cookies for election day and bring them to work!

Thanks for the idea and link.

16. if you have the time and the patience for it,
You could make round cut-out sugar-type cookies, and decorate like Obama's logo. Just the sunrise with a circle around it would do--you wouldn't need to add lettering.
