Christmas fantasy present realized
Edited on Sat Dec-27-08 12:57 AM by sazemisery
My house is on a concrete slab and my kitchen is ceramic tile. Bad on back and feet. So Mr.sazemisery gifted me with a Gelpro mat

I am in heaven. I think I can cook for hours without fatigue setting in.

Happy Week between Christmas and New Years to all!

edited for salutation

1. NOW you tell me! lol
I was in quite the holiday mode xmas eve and forgot to wear sneakers while cooking all day. Man, were my legs sore after that!

With the dogs, we walk a lot each week, but this kind of standing really hurt. I need one of those mats in front of my island.

Happy New Year!

5. Mine is between the stove and island
I have an old pair of rubber Birkenstocks that have split on the top of the left one, but I refuse to throw them away because they have accorded me some comfort. We laughed that 2 pair of Crocs would have cost a whole lot less.

2. Keeping comfortable is VERY important.
Many decades ago, when I was a much younger man, and in the Navy, I had the same affliction - and perhaps worse. The decks (floors) inside the ship are steel. Covered with (then) asbestos tile. This asbestos tile. On hard, unforgiving steel.

The ache would start in the calves. And work up through the legs. Relentlessly. Even being in bed (in the sack ..... s'cuze me) did nothing to make it feel better.

It took about a month to get used to it.

I sure wish we had gel mats back then. The only thing we had was in the galley. Duckboard. To keep from slipping in the grease on the floor.

4. The military always thinks of your comfort.
I laugh when I look back at my stint in the Army. What better way to break in a new pair of leather combat boots but to march 5 miles with 40 lbs. on your back! Back then we were also told our ponchos would protect us from nuclear fallout.:evilfrown:

We have already discussed getting another one for the space in front of the sink. Must keep the dishwasher happy and comfortable also.

3. What a great gift.
Mr. S. really rocks! Could use one of those myself. I stand on wide pine board and I am usually barefoot or just in stocking feet because I hate wearing shoes when I'm home. By the time I'm done with my weekend cooking marathons, I'm very sore and my right thigh is numb to the touch.

Glad he took real good care of you with that gift. Give him a big ol' hug from me.

One of these days we need to drag our menfolk out and meet somewhere. :hi:

6. He should have put both our names on it
He suffers more from fatigue than I do.

We will get together some time, for sure. :hi:

7. I put on my super ugly z-coil nursing shoes
when I'm going to be on my feet and cooking or doing anything else.

Those mats look nice, though. I have handwoven rugs as fatigue mats now and combined with the ugly shoes, they're enough.

8. Ugly shoes are key to cooking
Being a Pisces, it is very important for my feet to be happy. The Berkies I own are great and I refuse to get rid of them even though they are ripped across the top of one.

9. Amazing, isn't it?
I admit, I'm jealous of how elegant those look.

Some years ago I happened across a sale at some liquidator place, of these kind of commercial kitchen safety/anti-fatigue mats:

http://www.mats-inc.com/0623-safe-walk-mats-pi-82.html?image=1

I got three. One for in front of the sink, one for in front of the stove, one for in front of the prep area. They are butt-ugly. At the time I had dark vinyl tile floor so they weren't quite so conspicuously unaesthetic.

Both the DH and my house cleaner are bemused by my insistence on keeping them even though we now have light colored ceramic tile floors.

Yes, they don't "go with the decor" but I could not do without them. (Ceramic tile floors on a concrete slab, no less.)

Congratulations!

enviously,
Bright

12. I was gonna buy these
many a time and never got around to it. Suffered a long time but worth the wait. He says he is getting on for in front of the sink now. For him when he washes dishes. Boy, am I lucky or what? :)

10. I looked at the link and that looks beyond fabulous. Congratulations.
I want some in my workshop, where I stand all day at tall tables and work.

Since you like cooking, and the gift was not self serving, the link to this will do nothing but hopefully amuse you
