How long does Egg Nog last?

My son likes the stuff (I can't drink it myself). The expiration date is indistinct. I'm guessing it lasts longer than milk, but I don't know how much longer.

1. If it's prepared and stored correctly--a couple of years!
I read this a couple of days ago--fascinating:

2. I'm not sure I should be giving my 12 year old Bailey's...

But I trust Michael Ruhlman - he's a good writer and knows his stuff.

3. In this house...
not very long at all! Bu-dum!

Seriously, tho, I've stopped buying regular egg nog and started buying soy nog. All that yummy flavor without the richness that gives me heartburn! Love the stuff, like way too much.

4. I'd give it a week in an opened container in the fridge
I wouldn't let it go much further. I assume we're talking about the Pasteurized Egg Nog you get in a carton in the grocery store. Fresh home made egg nog I would use immediately and wouldn't keep longer than 48 hours in the fridge.

I like the Soy Nog myself but it's no substitution for the real thing and still too high in fat and sugar for me.

I limit myself to one large glass of the full fat stuff or just a quart of the fat free nog; I love it all even in my coffee.

6. I haven't but it sounds great.
I love to use the soy nog in my Pamela's Pancake Mix, tho. :9
