What's for dinner? ~ Saturday the 14th edition
Not sure here. We have Chinese and chili lefotvers. Both sound yummy to me. :)

I expected to be knee-deep in sourdough production today. No such luck. So there WILL be something yummy for dessert to relieve my disappointment. ;)

What's for dinner where you are?

1. We're ordering Chinese tonight
Ater MR. AAL got back from Iraq almost three years ago (can it possibly have been that long ago?) he couldn't stomach Chinese food, so we went without for a loooong time. He said it sounded good tonight. :D

Chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce for me! I might even add some Hot & Sour soup! :bounce:

3. I didn't really realize how much of an adjustment it was
Now that I can look back, I realize we have (so far) made it through all the stuff that returning soldiers experience. Blood, sweat and tears and all that, I guess.

I'm glad he's home, too, and that he's still here and hasn't been called back {{{fingers crossed}}}

11. I hope he doesn't, either, AAL.
After everything you've been through to decompress.

I'm really beside myself with worry because my 27 year old nephew just enlisted in the army for no other reason than he got laid off and is totally unmotivated to do much in life under his own steam.

15. Sorry to hear that
The country will probably see a rise in enlistments because of our crappy economy. That was the Neocon plan, right? <sigh>

On the bright side, maybe this will motivate him in a good way later on.

5. We did a HUGH Thai lunch!
On weekends at Rabieng, they also offer dim sum, so we ordered ten different things, plus my friend had soup, and I got Drunken Duck Noodles to take home.

That's dinner tonight. I'm all alone here, which means I DINE IN SOLITARY SPLENDOR!

Then we went next door to the Thai market, where I stocked up on light and dark soy sauces, sesame oil, chili oil, fish sauce, sweet and hot dipping sauces, rice flake, and I don't even remember what else.

Then we went to PENZEY'S!!!!!

Heavens.

Even before we went inside, he had to peel me off the front window, where I was sprawled, pressing up against the glass, moaning, "Oh, LOOK!!!! LOOK!!!!!!"

What was nice was that everyone inside waved to me. No one seemed to find my behavior odd. They were all smiling.

When we got inside, people said to me that they'd had the exact same reaction the first time they went there. One lady said she calls it, simply, "the hundred dollar store," because that's how much she always spends.

Oh, it's just lovely! The layout is so perfect, the big signs telling you the categories, just like the catalog or the website: "Baking." "Chili." "Barbecue."

And they have large canisters in front of each shelf with that particular spice or herb or mixture inside, so that you can open it and sniff it.

My nose was buried in one thing or another for about an hour. Dried lemon and orange peel. Shallots. Chives. Celery flakes. Got 'em all.

Yep, it's the hundred dollar store, all right.

Then we hit Harris Teeter for baby back ribs, beautiful shrimp from the Carolinas (head-on!) and some cheese.

We stumbled home, exhausted and happy and still full.

Oh, and I got a haircut, too..............

7. I'm amazed you managed time for the haircut. :)
There will be lots of delicious goodness in your future after this expedition. :)
I'd be VERY jealous, but I'm sated from scraping the bowl after making a cream cheese pie filling. So instead I'll be very happy that you scored! :D

And your post reminded me that I have to track down a big thingy of
Pearl River Bridge Superior Soy Sauce. We ran out. So... thankie! :)

6. I just put on some rice
and I'll whip up some peanut sauce for fake chik'n nuggets. One of our favorite dinners. I didn't think to get a cuke for a sweet vinegar cuke and onion salad to go with it, so I'll probably just put together a green salad.

I got this organic long grain brown rice at WF in the bulk section and it is smelling so good already! Very nutty. If it tastes as good as it smells, I could eat it plain.

9. I wish you could smell this.
None of the prepackaged organic brown rice I've ever bought smelled this good.
