Geeeze .... what to do when a pound of fresh crabmeat hits the floor and busts open ........
I bought a pound of fresh (pasteurized) lump crabmeat at Costco on Saturday. It was on the top shelf of the fridge, on top of something else. Sparkly Jr was visiting and fridge surfing. Sparkly told her to close the door. "Mooooo-OOOOOM!" followed by (we think a genuinely unintended) *slam*.

This morning, I am up at 5.30 (I normally get up at 7 or 8) and fumbling around getting ready for an hour and a half drive to a meeting. I open the fridge.

The pound of crabmeat hits the floor. *Splat* The sealed plastic container cracks. There is now crab juice and a few slivers of meat on the floor. Big and Little hit it, tongues a-lickin'. I follow that up on my hands and knees with a spray bottle and paper towels.

But the harm was to the crabmeat. Now open and unsealed, it had to be used tonight. The intent was that this would be for crepes, but there was no time for crepes tonight ...... sooooo ........

Roux with half butter/half olive oil.
Make a seafood stock with seafood base

Make a sauce from this.

Add to this some dijon mustard and worchestershire.

Squeeze in the juice of two blood oranges. Then add some of the orange pulp.

Add some fresh chopped parsley

Add the crab meat. Fold it in.

Put over some Orecchiette and fold together.

Sprinkle more parsley ....

Wow.

What are the ingredients in that seafood base?

2. The top ingredients are all fish .....
Clam, lobster, crab, fin fish, and then various chemically things .... and it ends with onion powder and garlic powder. The taste of the base itself is not nearly as salty as a lot of them. Minor's is a better quality brand.

3. have you tried BTB clam base?
I don't know if they have a seafood base, but they do have clam. It would be salty, though, probably.
