Am I the only one waaaaaaay behind on the crepe challenge?
:(
I keep adjusting what I want to try based on what's available.

I may try it this weekend and still don't know what I want to try.

5. Not my challenge, at all
Crepes are what I wrap leftovers in when I don't want to cook. Crepes are what I throw cottage cheese and jam in when I want something sweet.

Elaborate crepe recipes are just so not me.

6. Well I don't know what the challenge is, but I've been making them lately
I had some leftover cream cheese frosting that I found makes a great filling - not filling really, since you only need to use a very little bit. And then I mixed in some orange marmalade with the frosting and it was even better.

I actually made some crepes using that Japanese omelette technique, where you roll it back and forth - it was very interesting. Only downside was both sides didn't get browned, but still ok.

My first try with a crepe batter, found it was very lumpy, and I wanted a smooth batter (without getting a blender involved). So I wondered: what if I do as though I were making a white sauce, made a roux first so the flour and butter got incorporated well first? It actually worked nicely. I didn't actually cook the roux very long, but then I wondered what would happen if you did, if you prepared it like as for gumbo or something? Haven't tried it yet but may some day.

After all, a crepe batter is not very far off from a white sauce recipe (except ratios). Just add egg (after it cools, of course)

15. Interesting. I hadn't thought about the similarities. But I've never made them before.
The challenge is to make savory crepes and come back and post at the end of the month in the project thread. A fun thing to do and a way to gather new recipes. :)

7. yeah, you guys--get with it!
:hi:

As far as I can tell I'm the only one who made any so far. That was last Friday. Of course I had helpers--I put my two houseguests, my daughter and her boyfriend to work. But really, it is not at all hard to do. If you can make pancakes, you can make crepes.

16. I've seen a few people mentioning they've made them already.
I think they are waiting for the "official thread" to post about it.

22. There is no official thread.
Everyone has been posting them when they got them done because everyone wanted to do that way rather than wait til the end of the month to share results.

26. My original thought was to
have a single thread we could access later with results, pics and recipes but they have been trickling in and are in three or four threads now.

19. I've been making them since we decided.
I've made crepes before but very seldom and usually dessert types. I wanted to try making the different types. Buckwheat, corn flour, etc. I have developed an original recipe for the challenge and documented it with pictures. I need to type the recipe out 'cause I am the "handful of this, pinch of that" type of cook.

I can't wait to reveal. Mr.sazemisery has raved to everyone about this dish. He even requested I make them last night. Second time in a week.

21. I've already made some, but I replied in another thread. I made Chicken
Saltimbocca crepes and they were really good. I had never tried crepes before because I thought they would be hard to do. I'll be trying them more often.

I'm looking forward to making them. I did do a rye crepe but I didn't really have anything appropriate to fill them with.

crepe a la Reuben with any of that leftover corned beef lying around.

Our grocer's deli....uhmmm....sucks. SO we'd have to drive to the next town.

I'm trying to stay away from flour. It just doesn't agree with me.

I guess I could make buckwheat crepes, though.

18. Yup. Buckwheat was one of the things I'd consdered trying. I'm going
to do rye or sourdough though, I think. I think the buckwheat would rock.

27. No, I am too...
I had midterms and have a family member dealing with some health issues so I have been helping out. I did, however, eat some crepes at IHOP (I know, I know...they were not all that great, but it was late and I was hungry on my way home one night). I can tell you that IHOP's crepes were edible, and they stuffed the savory one with some nice garden veggies and topped it with hollandaise (not real, but I've had worse fakes). The dessert one was stuffed with Nutella (food of the gods) and bananas, topped with strawberries and whipped cream.

So I am definitely keeping the challenge in mind - why else would I order crepes at IHOP? I just need to get to the store and get creative. :-)

31. No, lol
I probably won't even contribute this time around. Crepes to me - meh, not so much.

I'd rather just make a quiche that is a meal. Sorry - I'm not a dessert person.

Everyone else have fun :hi:

I'm not sure if I'll like them either. Never made savory crepes before. But its something new to try!
