What's for dinner? ~ Saturday the 28th
Howdy folks!

I'm not sure what we're having yet.

I may try and do something for the crepe challenge but it's looking like a really busy day today. I have sourdough ready to bake, and a friend dropped off 2 bags of granny smith's and requested a pie :D PLUS I have my cheese making stuff now and I want to try making mozzarella. So...it may be leftovers for us unless I knock something off the list, or Bill cooks.

What's for dinner where you are?

1. I have some black-eyed peas soaking
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 12:36 PM by hippywife
for Joe Ely's recipe. I don't have celery or green pepper but I do have several small organic red, orange and yellow peppers that should do the trick, I think.

Look for a PM from me shortly.

2. I love black eyed peas! I think we've settled on grilled ham and cheese sandwiches
with soup and a salad. I'm baking bread this evening, wanting to get some mozzarella made, and I am already tired. Dinner will be simple. :)

3. Don't push yourself too hard.

Won't pay to put yourself in pain, ya know?

But I do know from tired today. Cleaned house (Bill thankfully did laundry.), made a biga and a soaker for whole wheat bread tomorrow, made a batch of Ain5, made yogurt, made the black-eyed pea soup, and cornbread for it in the oven now. And, and, and...my kitchen in entirely cleaned up! :woohoo:

6. I'd have to hate you if you weren't so cool.
:evilfrown:
You I have a clean kitchen. I'm sooooooo jealous!

My kitchen is still a mess and I burned my finger taking sourdough out of the oven. Bill is supposed to help finish up the dishes. So that will help.

12. Awww....
What I left behind last night Bill took care of before I got up this morning. :)

Now I have to trash it all over again making bread, apple pie, and cheese. I just couldn't get everything done yesterday.

13. Gee! I don't know why! LOL

I'm wanting to make an apple pie today, too. I still have yet to give this non-hydrogenated shortening a good test spin. Thought that might do it. Gotta make sticky buns, too.

I'm happy you have such a wonderful Bill, too.

14. Oh cool! I'm wondering how the shortening does with pie crust.
And we definitely did well in the "Bill" department. Kissed a lot of toads to find mine. :D

15. You and me both, sister!
Kissin' toads that is. LOL

We haven't tried the pie yet. Bill will a little later, but it looks like it does no better than the canola oil recipes. It was very hard to handle and it looks more crumbly than flaky. I'll use it up but I'm going back to butter.

What did you end up with for dinner, then?

16. What DID we eat....?
Oh yeah... I remember now.
Fish.
Was yummy.

I had planned on a salad too but I was wiped out.... So it was a fish and chips night for us. I think we finished up the ham, bean and veggie soup with sourdough bread for lunch, but I can't remember if that was Sunday lunch or Saturday. Jeeeeez.

It's 2 am here and I finally feel functional. Really overdid it this weekend and still didn't accomplish much. Did make a huge honking apple pie though.

They said it was good. I barely remember making it. LOL

4. gourmet night here...

since we worked in the garden all day until we flagged - taking out some very nasty prickly bushes that had seeded themselves. AND we had some driving around to do ...

we picked up some natural casing hot dogs and brown bread in a can - cracked open a can of baked beans and went back in time to Saturdays of the past.

I think I have a little sunburn...

5. This is a clean-out kind of night
I had lots left on the roast chicken I made the other night. So I pulled it apart and put it into a large fry pan with turkey gravy. Also added in thin slices from some fresh pork medallions I made a while back from a pork loin.

The sides are simply canned green beans and some Uncle Ben's brown & wild rice in the bags that go right into the microwave.

The gravy made it finger licking good since I spooned some over the rice. It all turned out like comfort food on a Saturday night.

My fridge is emptying out little by little. :D

Hope you enjoyed your grilled sandwiches. We love those. Sometimes it's a grilled cheese and soup on the side kind of night. That's how we do it.

:hi:

8. Your dinner sounds delicious! Ours was too.
Tomorrow will likely be a hodgepodge lunch with a little of this and that. I am going to try and make crepes for dinner, but I still want to make cheese tomorrow since I didn't get to it today. I'm insanely tired and really need to back off for a few days. I've been pushing too hard.

9. I had a quick stir fry, again
Tofu, veggies, soy vay over rice.

The boys are at their dad's and I should use this as an opportunity to try new things that I know they wouldn't like.
But the laziness in me prevailed.

17. Lasagna in individual small casserole dishes
I made the pasta on Friday. Sliced some of it up, but cut 6 3 1/2" circles out of the rest. There were some cracks after drying, but they boiled up OK. Meat sauce with green onions, olives and mushrooms. Ricotta from the batch I made for crepes. Mozzarella from a big sale last month. They were really good!
