The paska dough is undergoing it's first rise - note:
to non-Eastern European heritage folks. Paska is a sweet bread with raisins traditionally made for Easter. It's going to rain here all day - I hope I don't have any trouble with this.

I have most of my family coming on Easter Sunday, so I will be making eight paskas, some to eat with dinner and some for every family to take home. :-)

1. Is there a difference between Paska and Babka?
I've been craving Babka like crazy the past few weeks. If I make it though...I'll eat too much of it and regret it.

3. paska, pashka, babka
Edited on Fri Apr-10-09 11:29 AM by grasswire
Paska is a very light sweet bread, sometimes flavored with lemon and/or dried fruit.

Babka is a bread with a filling -- sometimes chocolate.

Pashka is a Russian cheese dessert made in a mold like a flower pot.

All Eastern European.

I've made the pashka, but not the other two.

Edit to add pics:

2. Sounds wonderful.
I really miss making easter bread with my gran but since she is no longer with us and I don't celebrate those holidays anymore, I do without.

Enjoy your bread. :hi:

5. Thanks! I wish I could say my paskas looked as nice
as the pic grasswire posted :-). I miss my grandmothers too, but when I bake or cook like they did, I think about them and smile :hi:.
