hi, does anyone know any established macrobiotic or 'the chinese diet' forums?
if you do, please link them.

If someone has already posted info to this effect; thanks. If I knew how I would search for them in du? just from the only search i've found or du, or is there one specific to the cooking and baking forum.

Thanks! I've been reading The Macrobiotic Way by Michio Kushi; maybe some way I can come up with a way to use available produce in my area (middle Tennessee).

I meant to also ask about anyone in my area as well. Thank you.

1. Macrobiotics finally grew up back in the 80s
and it's now a very healthful low meat, whole grain diet. There are a few sites out there that have newsletters, like http://www.macroamerica.com/index.php

I did find a site with a forum: http://www.cybermacro.com/

One site with beaucoup links was http://www.holisticmed.com/www/macrobiotics.html

Macrobiotics got a very bad reputation in the 60s and 70s for being weirdly dogmatic and trying to push people into a very unhealthy all brown rice diet. Lots of people got sick on it back then but since then real nutritionists have joined and created a very nice if restricted diet.

A rundown of the Chinese diet (the real one) is at http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/healthy-living/use-your-noodle-the-real-chinese-diet-is-so-healthy-it-could-solve-the-wests-obesity-crisis-873651.html

Most real Chinese food is very healthful with meat used only as a minor flavoring and not served in a slab as the main event. Again, it's high in grains, moderate in veggies, and low in meat.

3. Gloria Swanson was doing macrobiotics in the Twenties before it was cool.
It was a reason (among several) that she and Joe Kennedy broke up. He wanted a lobotomy for his daughter, Rosemary, and Gloria was pushing macrobiotics as a superior therapy. Joe blew up big time and more or less threw Swanson out of his office and his life. We all know how well Joe's judgment worked for his daughter (sarcasm).

4. Northern China, yes

"it's high in grains, moderate in veggies, and low in meat." Northern China is unsuitable for rice production so they grow a lot of wheat. Lots of noodles, dumplings, and wontons.

I lived in southern China where there was much less noodle-making and a lot more rice. Id say an average meal was 40% rice, 40% veggies, 20% meat by weight.
