Advice needed - my 6th grader told me a buddy at school...
was eating some sort of powdery stuff that he had "found" in an envelope in front of the school. I don't know this other boy, so I can't tell if he was joking with my son, and the stuff was candy, or what. The boy was trying to make my son think it was some sort of drug.

I don't know of any drug that's powdery (or crystally, like sugar) that's sweet, the boy said it was sweet.

What should I do? I don't know this boy. I don't know if it's true. If I call the school, they might make a huge deal out of it when it might just be nothing. On the other hand, maybe it's something.

My son said that by the end of school, his friend was acting normal and told my son he had thrown the stuff away, and my son believed him.

How would you (realistically) have handled this? Bear in mind, this is Middle School and all of the issues that come with that (eg, my son being ostrasized for "telling" on this other boy, especially if it wasn't anything to worry about.

1. I'd call the school
I'm sure your son wasn't the only one told or who knew about it.

Insist on anonymity, of course. In fact you don't even have to tell them YOUR name if it comes to it.

Even if it wasn't a "drug" - what ijut eats something they just "find" laying around?

Probably too late to investigate at this point, but the kids teacher should know to keep an eye out.

2. My son said that others knew, but
when I called the mom of one of the other kids that I know, she ask him about it and he said he only knew what my son had told him, in other words, didn't have 1st hand knowledge (at least that's what he told his mom).

Yeah, I told my son that in any case, I don't want him hanging around this ijut who would eat something they found like that!

Thanks for the reply.

3. I would tell your son to never bother with the moron again
and ...if he tells you about it one more time then I would probably call the school...

when I was a kid I remember this one kid who used to brag about having drugs...meanwhile he was taking his dad's vasotec out of the medicine cupboard....he got caught and suspended from school.

4. Thanks. I have told him that (although, whether he'll listen...)
And, I did call the school today. But, from what I heard, they didn't do anything (yet). I just hope this doesn't backfire on my son somehow. Even if it does, I'll make sure he knows that he did the right thing by telling me.
