My almost 15 year old daughter lied to me last night.

Long story short, she lied about how she got from poit a to point b. I don't allow her to ride with people I don't know. I am very selective about who she rides with and mostly take her places or she has to ride with other adults. No teenagers unless I know them or maybe a team mate to a game. Not very often. So she must have riden with some teenagers.

I found out after she was already at a friends house spending the night. I have not talked to her about it yet, but am about to go get her now.

I want to know how many of you parents out there let their just turning 15 year olds ride with friends in cars? I know it's not about what she lied about but why she lied.

But I'm 15 about to turn 16.

I've always been allowed to ride with other teenagers, regardless of whether my parents knew them. I rode with my best friend 2 days after she got her license, I was 14 at the time. The only accidents are minor ones I got into while in the car with my brother.

Sometimes there are no adults around, and waiting for your parents to pick you up is just not an option.

My daughter knows she is not allowed to ride with people I don't know. Most moms in my circle don't allow it either unless they know the drivers well.

My kids are little, so it is not an issue yet. But I have read about how dangerous new drivers are, especially when they get with a group of friends. New drivers really need to be able to concentrate because they don't have the automatic responses to dangerous situations that more seasoned drivers have developed.

I think that many states are now either considering or actually implementing "tiered" drivers license. At first a new driver can only drive during the day with one passenger, then they move up to night driving, then to an unrestricted license. Or something along those lines. Seems to reduce accidents and fatalities among young drivers.

4. It's like that here in Va. Beach

new drivers can only have one passenger and there is a 11:00pm curfew.

5. My daughter's friends are mixed.

I haven't specifically set any rules for my 16 year old, because it hasn't been an issue. She didn't start getting rides until this year and has only gotten rides from her friends we've known for ~10 years. I do know that when one friend gives my daughter a ride some of her other friends can't ride since they are only permitted to grab a ride when they are the only passenger.
