I'm posting this just in case someone may be interested in reducing the size of windows XP
This past week I have used nlite.exe to make a new xp disk that only has the features I want on my computer. I reduced the size by 345.73 MB from the original size of 553.61 MB to a fast 207.88 MB total disk size. In doing this I also removed many of the drivers that comes with xp because I have to intall drivers anyway so why have the ones I won't be using taking up space. Too many things did I remove to remember them all right now and I must say I have probably one of the fastest XP Home computers around, that, I would bet on if I was a betting man that is. My computer is has a 3 gig Intel processor with 2 gig of memory and a 160 gig HD. After burning the CD and booting from it and telling it to format the HD, from that point on all I had to add was my name, for some reason I didn't tell nlite to include my name. So far its been several days and I have had no issues with any of the operating system, no problems at all. Even thought I had a scare yesterday morning when it was running internet explorer 7 so slow as to at first make me wonder if maybe its not going to work out after all but then when I logged on last night and then again this morning the slowness I was experiencing was gone. The problem I was having yesterday was the ISP's not mine apparently because after I called the help desk to complain it perked back up. I also have sp3 rc1 installed and when I first installed it I noticed a performance increase from that alone.

peace and happy computing

I also have puppy linux booting from a 1 gig SD card/reader like the one in our camera

1. Nlite is awesome
And for Vista there is Vlite. Still in a basic form pretty much but better than their first release.

2. Making this new xp boot cd using nlite was the most fun I've had with my clothes on in a long time
and the added bonus is my computer is faster than it was and by all intent and purposes it was pretty durn fast to start with. My first computer was a 80286 with 1 meg of ram and a 20 meg hard drive, running dos 3.1. With the extra 384 meg memory of ram that dos didn't recognize at the time I used it to make a ram drive and used a batch file to load AutoCad 10 onto it and boy did I have a fast Cad machine. I guess it would be safe to say I have been tweaking my computers from day one.
