What does "mirrored" mean?
As in when you are downloading free software - can somebody explain in lay terminology what that means and why it is used?

1. Duplicate
It's just another place (server) that has the exact same file you want. Mirroring is also used so that in case of a failure on one server, another location has the same information stored.
