I Don't Like Ike

I know this isn't the forum for it, but this is the forum where I know the most people, and I don't want it to have mass exposure to the idiots in GD who think this is a game.

Came to hang out at DU for a bit today to try to distract my mind from what's going on in Houston, but that's been a fruitless exercise with all the whacked out idiots spouting their conspiracy theories and, once again, denigrating those without the resources just to hop on a plane and take off two weeks ahead of time and stay at a posh hotel where all their needs are cared for.

This will be my last thread for several days it looks like, and I just wanted to say before the power goes that I appreciate you all. Take care of yourselves. I'll take care of me, and I'll see you on the other side of all this.

And, no, I'm not in Galveston. I'm in Houston proper, and the water won't be a problem here. Wind will. The extent of the destruction no one here can really say. We'll survive it, but we may be dealing with near 100 degree heat and 80%+ humidity for a week or more without power. Got food and water for a week. After that, if power's not back on, I start walking to the airport where I'll pick up a ticket waiting for me on the first flight out of here that lets me take my cat with me.

Thanks for indulging me ... just a little nervous and frustrated. The waiting is unnerving.

2. I think that's why hurricanes are worse than earthquakes.
Earthquakes sneak up and pounce on you, there's no waiting.

Good luck. I hope Ike isn't as bad as some people are saying it will be.

3. Keep safe Roy
I can't even start to imagine what it must be like to be sitting in the path of a hurricane of that size. Saw a weather pic yesterday - the bastard covers most of the Gulf of Mexico.

Last year there was a smallish hurricane somewhere off Perth, in the Indian Ocean. Here in Melbourne, over 2,000 miles away we had a day or so of winds caused by the tail - and we thought that was bad!

All my very best wishes for the safety of you and young Moggie Biv and please get back online as soon as you can and let us know if you are safe. Will be thinking of you.

H

4. I am optimistic about your power
I know there is no way to be sure. But my gut tells me you will have you power back on ASAP. I'm not watching the news but I guess you are in the worst of it now. Just realize these modern conveniences are all artificial and that we are rooted in the Earth which gives and takes. Hope you are Okay. In Chicago we are annoyed by 5 days of an annoying mist. Please let us know when it's over.

6. I'm gonng trust your feelings ...

Still now out of the woods as far as power outages go. They say it could go again at any time, but mine came back about 6am. How it came back at that time I have NO idea, and I don't think I even want to know. Winds were howling something awful about then.

My complex has power, but neighboring buildings don't. Must be on a buried circuit or something.

And the Internet is working.

I'm stunned.

Haven't slept really, but we survived it.

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts.
