Images not showing up. Help!
For the past couple months images on web pages have not been showing up for me. It isn't all images but I would say that more than 50% of all images don't show for me. It happens in Firefox and it happens in IE. I either get a red x, the broken thingy in Firefox, or "posted image". I go to Flickr and the pictures on my account appear, some other people's images show up, but most other pages have not a one show up. It happens all over the internet, not just Flickr.

Anyone have any ideas on this? It just started happening one day and I thought it would clear up but hasn't. It gets very annoying reading DU and seeing "posted image" or reading a food blog but not being able to see the pictures of the food. (Although the latter may be better for my waistline.) With some sites, they never show up anymore and with others (e.g. DU) some show up and some don't.

1. For Firefox, take a look at Tools/Options/Content
Do you have it checked for bringing up images automatically?

2. Try this
Open a browser window and type in the address bar: "about:config" (w/o quotes, of course)

This will show you all of the configuration settings. Scroll down to

"permissions.default.image"

and see what number is in the "value" column. This option has 3 possible settings:

1 = Allow all images to load, regardless of origin (Default setting)
2 = Block all images from loading
3 = Prevent third-party images from loading

If your setting is at 3, then your browser is only loading images that are hosted at the same site as the page you're browsing (this setting is useful to prevent tons of ad images from loading). But it will also prevent the loading of images hosted at places like photobucket, flikr etc.

4. Reply to your latest post, but i need to refer to post #1
If shit just starts happening, without warning, without you changing settings, I reckon it's usually due to updates being installed that have changed how things work on your computer.

Right or wrong, and we dont need to get into this now, I never let Microsoft update anything automatically on my comp. So my first thoughts are to do this:

*Right click on desktop, select Desktop, Customise Desktop and tick My Computer so that you have an icon on the desktop
*Right click the My computer icon, select Automatic Updates and turn them off
*Wind back the clock. Click Programs,Accessories, System Tools, System Restore and pick a restore point before you had image problems.
*Reboot and see what happens.

Then let us know what's going on.
