Dual boot question.
Quick background. Last year I bought an inexpensive HP. It came with Vista of course. However, since I have an unused version of XP Pro, I planned on deleting Vista and using XP instead. This didn't entirely work (I couldn't find all the drivers and HP doesn't support this "downgrade").

So I've been plugging along with Vista but have been having other problems lately so I'm reconsidering the XP thing.

Soooo...here's the question. A friend says I can do an XP boot from a separate drive without any complications. But wouldn't I still need to deal with the missing driver problem?

1. Yes, you will have the exact same problem
what specific drivers are you missing? I have to believe that most of the hardware devices would at the very minimum be downward compatible with some XP driver.

2. I don't recall all of the issues exactly ( this was last February) but
I do remember not being able to get online and also having video problems though.

I can't find the link, but read somewhere that my computer's architecture(?) was designed specifically for Vista. Does that make sense?

3. They just don't list the XP drivers on their website
But if you check in Device Manager on your control panel to see exactly what each device is. Write down the type of hardware like the graphics chipset, LAN etc., then go online and you can find the XP drivers for those items. I've done this more than once when downgrading someones computer. The worst was Toshiba-they didn't list any XP drivers on their website even though I knew that same model had XP on it 5 months previously at the time. Through a lot of Googling, I found the Toshiba-Europe website and lo and behold-they had EVERY driver I needed for XP lited.

Vista is really starting to get on my nerves.

5. What is the hardware? I'll help you find the drivers.
HP not have them for download, specifically, but they exist. I run XP on a lot of HP equipment that was sent with Vista, because I need a standard image, and many of the older PCs here don;t have the capability of running Vista.

If you could provide you model number and the Devices you are having trouble finding drivers for, we'll go from there.
