Help... my SO bought a laptop, with it came several cd's including
Works 9, now my question is I have a new desk top with vista can I use the cd to download works 9 on my desk top? Thanks to any and all geeks out there!

1. Legally?
No. It is most likely an OEM license which means it is only legal on the computer that it came installed on. The disk is for re-install purposes only. If it is not an OEM license, you could remove the software from the laptop and install it on your desktop but it still cannot legally be loaded on more than one computer at a time. You could always download Open Office on your desktop if you need word processing and spreadsheet programs. It is free. http://download.openoffice.org/

It seems Works 9 will run on Vista and I can't see anything about product activation. I'd say go ahead and install it.

It's free, it's open-source, and it's a hell of a lot better than MS Works.

4. Download Open Office
It's free, will do anything Works does, Takes up less drive space and easily converts files to works formats.
