Speaking of OpenOffice ... PSA

Beware of an advertisement I've seen showing up here and there from Google Ads. This particular ad is very nearly a scam. I don't know if it'd meet the legal definition of one, but it's skirting around the edges at best.

I'd seen it several times but got curious today and clicked on it. The ad promotes "OpenOffice 2009," which doesn't exist actually. The page it takes you to advertises the real OpenOffice and even has -- in graphic, non-clickable form -- the OpenOffice.org URL.

But, it also has two links, both of which imply you are about to download OpenOffice, which you may well be, but first you have to sign up for a paid service called File Guru.

Anyway, just a note that you might want to know or pass along to others you know who might be taken in by such things.

2. This has the ear marks of a scam.
A graphic of the "OpenOffice.org URL" so you can't click on it and actually go there.
The working links take you else where, other than OO, to who knows where.
They want you to pay money to sign up for something that is free.

3. thats kind of funny..
Just last night I went to download OpenOffice for the first time. I went to google and hit the first site that came up, it wanted money to download. I thought that's strange isn't this supposed to be free? went back to google and found the real site.
