can you figure this out?
The teenager's computer has gone wacky. Windows boots up, but his desktop is missing. He can open task manager by using control alt delete, but if he tries to use new task to go to Internet Explorer or mozilla firefox to get to a web site, he gets an error message.

However!

He is able to download music with no problem.

Any clues?

1. What error message?
And, in the list of "processes" (tab) in Task Manager, do you see "explorer.exe"?

2. have him type explorer.exe in File>New Task
on another PC download Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy and try installing both on the PC. Then run both and whatever A/V he has running, make sure it is up to date.

3. I did run malwarebytes...
....last week and it only showed four bugs, which it eliminated. I was surprised at the small amount.
