I have a question regarding WiFi hardware....
I have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with my PC as my main system in my office upstairs. My laptop connects easily to this Router via WiFi.

My question is as follows:

I want to link a PC downstairs by WiFi to my main system upstairs...what do I need to be able to do that? Do I need to purchase a wireless PCI card for the downstairs PC, and is that all that I will need?

Thanks in advance!

1. You need either an internal PCI wireless card or an external wireless
receptor that connects via USB. Make sure your signal travels far enough to give good reception where your downstairs PC is located. You can try your laptop in this location to make sure it works well. Otherwise, you might also need a signal booster. I have this kind of setup in my house and it works well.

2. Thank you very much! I have a follow-up question concerning getting....
...to the Internet. Do I need to have an ISP for the PC downstairs, or can I connect to the Internet through the PC upstairs? If I don't need an ISP, how do I get to the Internet? My laptop connects just fine, and I don't have a separate ISP on the laptop.

3. No, your downstairs computer will connect just as
your laptop does with the wireless card.

4. One internet connection is all you need. Your "router" splits
the connection among all of your household computers.

5.  I hope you have secured your wireless LAN

I use WEP and Open Authentication. The other advice on the wireless card is correct. I would recommend the internal PCI card unless you are uncomfortable getting inside your PC.
