Java question
Keeping an eye on the weather radar here and have to have Java enabled to view some of the graphics. Noticed recently that I'm getting a pop-up 'Java Console' window that reads as follows:

Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06
Using JRE version 1.5.0_06 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\User

----------------------------------------------------
c: clear console window
f: finalize objects on finalization queue
g: garbage collect
h: display this help message
l: dump classloader list
m: print memory usage
o: trigger logging
p: reload proxy configuration
q: hide console
r: reload policy configuration
s: dump system and deployment properties
t: dump thread list
v: dump thread stack
x: clear classloader cache
0-5: set trace level to <n>
----------------------------------------------------

Java Runtime Version = 1.5.0_06
AnimationS applet (AniS) -- Revision: 2.75 Date: 2006/05/09 15:39:40

The options given are 'clear', 'copy' and 'close'.

It's not a major aggravation, but is a small annoyance. Not sure why it's appearing, what I'm supposed to do with it or how/if it can be gotten rid of.

Info that may or may not be helpful:

Windows XP
Mozilla Firefox

Under Firefox 'Extensions', I'm seeing - 'J2SE (TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6' but the buttons for 'uninstall, options, and find updates' are not active.

I'm guessing it's something I added/downloaded incorrectly and may just be stuck with.

You all have been so helpful in the past, thought I'd ask here if anyone knows how to get rid of the pop-up.

Thanks in advance

1. Looks like a possible error ...

Applets with errors in them or those that simply don't execute properly in your setup will throw up the console (which is what that is) with the out put of the error. I'm not seeing any error output, though.

If it's a problem with the code, there's nothing you can do about it directly of course. Security settings in other programs can sometimes cause the applets not to execute properly, and you'd need to track down which one it is.

If this is a site we could access, you might give us a URL to see if the issue is repeatable with others.

2. noaa.gov is one of those that generates the window
Here's one link that makes the console pop up. (It's not the only one - but the link was handy)
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t1/loop-vis.html

Thanks for the reply. :)

3. Just hit 'q' and it will hide the console

If you want to hide it permanently then you will have to adjust your browser and JVM settings.

Here are some guidelines

Hint - if you are running in XP you should click on Classic View in the Control Panel to show the Java Control Panel icon. Click on the Advanced tab and select the Java Console - Hide Console option.

4. Aha! Thank you.
It worked! 'Hide console'. How easy was that?

As RoyGBiv noted there were no error messages, just the console info popping up - guess it just makes sense that it was a setting (although I'd have never figured it out myself).

smiles on ya, fedsron2us. :) and thanks again.

5. No problem.
For some reason the Sun JVM installs with the Show Console option as the default. I am sure that this is very helpful to programmers debugging their code but it is a bit of a pain for the rest of us.
