My foster dog has kennel cough.
I brought home a sweet cairn terrier yesterday p.m. for the three days that the County shelter is closed. He coughs a lot, and it sounds like the description of kennel cough. He goes back Wednesday a.m. when the shelter opens. Does anyone have some home remedies or over the counter medication to recommend?

He is a doll, and he is learning the rules very quickly.

1. Here's a site with info on kennel cough, including diagnosis and some home remedies:
http://dogs.thefuntimesguide.com/2009/01/kennel_cough_treatment.php

This site mentions using honey, which I have found to be a great cure-all in humans and something you could safely try. (I'd avoid the home remedies that call for things like Robitussin, etc. Too easy to overdose w/out a vet's supervision.) http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf77208379.tip.html

Ideally, he should stay away from the kennel and other dogs until he's recovered. Could you foster him longer?
