Google has a pet hamster for your home page.
You can feed it and watch it drink water and play. It will follow your cursor around. Bonus: no cage to clean out!

1. Great - another electronic creature I can feel guilty about
not spending enough time with.

It's cute - I've added it to my page. Thanks!

2. I know--isn't it crazy?
I feel guilty if I pass by and don't give it food! I also have the goldfish pond and have to feed them too! The good thing is we can delete if the guilt gets to be too much.

I used to have the pet cat program--on an old computer. It was cute but got old after a while. Forget exactly what it was called. They also had a dog version.

3. Delete them!?!
Dear god no, that'd be like abandoning them! Hahaha.

I have a pet on Facebook - Let's just say, I'm a horrible person.

On the bright side, I spoil my real live little critter rotten.

I don't remember the dog/cat program - I'll have to look that up.

4. Yeah those old programs pre-dated Google.
I think it was Catz or Katz or something like that, and of course Dogz. You bought the program separately on a disk and installed it. You could pick whatever color pet you wanted, and name it and all. The cat had some catnip that you could feed it, and then it would act drunk. You could take a brush and groom it and it would purr. Seems to me it even grew from a kitten to a cat in due time.

5. No, thanks.
Living rurally, I'm not fond of rodents of any sort. I'm always fighting pitched battles...and losing.
