Anyone know of breeders dumping cats?
We have had five bengal mix cats from 6 wks to 6 mos show up in our neighborhood in the last two years. It seems like an awful coincidence. Some of us helped four, but one got sent to pound. They are all skittish but definitely not feral. The youngest took to us right away, but the older ones took a little time to become lap tamed. We have a couple right now that we are working with.

1. It happens
I don't know where you're located, but we've had it happen in our area (Texas). Breeders will either typically get tired of handling the cats, run out of money to deal with the cats, or even sometimes, the cats with "flaws" are dumped out. It's cruel and inhumane.

I'm not a fan of people who increase the numbers of cats (ANY cats!) in my area because every morning at 7:30 a.m., the euthanasia line starts at the local animal control center. The problem is that there are too many who don't have homes and anyone who willingly adds to those numbers is part of the problem regardless of what excuse they use for doing it.

Sorry...rant over.

Thank YOU for trying to help these kiddos!

2. Yep.
These are not the "show" cats. One has a little mustache. Two others have white flashes on their foreheads. They seem like mixes. I think some breeder is trying to get some new mix.

That is the problem with cats like bengals selling for as much as they do. Some see the cats as just a way to make a buck.

Anyway. These guys are adorable and will make nice pets for someone who likes good companions cats who happen to be kind of exotic looking.

3. It's possible that the woman who dumped an American Shorthair at my clinic this AM
was a breeder.

I hate people.

4. if you reported the incident to the police, would they ignore it? I hope not. Maybe they
could track her down and put her out of business.

6. unfortunately, that seems to be typical of police officers - then they wonder why bigger problems
result...

Many just don't "get" animal neglect and cruelty.

7. Well, now I'm curious about your opinion of those who
breed domestic cats with their wild sudo cousins, i.e., the Savannahs, Bengal mixes, etc. I'll go on record saying these people, along along with those who breed ligers, tigons, etc. should be shot in the ass with a cannon, but that's just me.

Not this July, but the one before, there was a cat damned near starving and dehydrated in our driveway. I took it food and water every day for weeks before it would even consider allowing me to touch it. Weeks went on and she was getting more friendly, and we remarked about her lack of a tail, VERY long front legs and long back legs.

As she was better fed and feeling better she was relentlessly stalking our cat, and it was a behavior that we couldn't break her of, and when it had been months that our cat couldn't go outside without the stalking and a fight ensuing, we tearfully had enough and surrendered the 'cat' to the local Humane Society, as the no kill shelters in this area have pretty much gone under.

She was determined to be a lynx/domestic cat hybrid, which explained her very long legs, thin body and the non-stop stalking of our cat. And I'm sure she met a bad end and I feel awful about that even though we didn't breed her, nor would we.

I guess I just don't understand stupid humans, IMO, who do this type of breeding, along with the other stupid humans who think that breeding tigers, etc. is okay, as most will be put down
